Jim Murray, oorspronkelijk een Engelse dagbladjournalist, staat bekend als het enfant terrible onder de whiskyschrijvers. Hij wenst met vrijwel niemand samen te werken en heeft er geen problemen mee om vriend en vijand te beledigen.
Niettegenstaande dat, is hij een getalenteerd schrijver. Hij publiceerde zijn eerste Whisky Bible in 2004 en geeft sindsdien elk jaar een nieuwe versie uit.
Eerder schreef hij al andere whiskyboeken waaronder Jim Murray’s Complete Book of Whisky (1997), Classic Bourbon, Tennessee & Rye (1998) en Classic Blended Scotch (1999). Jim woont afwisselend in Engeland en in Kentucky, USA.
